Valentine's Day is drawing nearer and yet so many of us might find ourselves dateless or single on the day of love. How do I cope with being single on valentines’ day? I miss my ex most on Valentine's Day. I don't have a date on Valentine's Day. How do I deal with a long distance relationship on Valentine's Day?
If any of these statements describe your situation you're not alone. Many men and woman the world over find themselves single or alone on Valentine's Day.
There are many ways to alleviate the pressure of being single on Valentine's Day. You can still enjoy the day, have tons of fun and avoid feeling alone.
1. Have fun!
Just because you're single on Valentine's Day that doesn’t mean you need to sit at home alone moping and eating ice-cream while watching soppy love stories that will depress you even further. Have a good time! Who knows? Maybe this Valentine's Day you'll find the one you're meant to be with; Valentine's Day is all about love after all, isn’t it? You're definitively not gonna find anyone while curled up on the couch all day.
2. Get out!
You don't need to be in a relationship to get out or have some fun on Valentine's Day. Call up some friends or family members (brothers, sisters or cousins) and get out. There is no way everyone you know is in a serious relationship, even so there's nothing wrong with a big group of friends (couples and singles) hanging out together. Go out for drinks or ice-cream, see a movie, go to a party or anything else but make it a fun day for you.
3. Enjoy being single!
There is so much you can do as a single person that you wouldn't dare attempt while in a relationship, top of the list is flirting! Valentine's Day parties are filled with themes and one of the best parties to go to on Valentine's Day are those that allow you to wear a certain colour if your single and a certain colour if you're not. Wear that 'single' colour proudly and who knows who you might bump into. You might just get a Valentine's Day gift you never expected.
Even if you don't meet the man/woman of your dreams at the Valentine's Day party at least you would have met a whole lot of new/different people, had a good time and celebrated Valentine's Day just like every other committed person out there.
4. Collect those gifts!
Another good thing about being single on Valentine's Day is that you have the potential to be spoilt rotten. Leading up to Valentines day get the attention of all those guys/girls you fancy and let them know that you like them. Also be sure to make known to them the fact that you're single. Being in a relationship on Valentine's Day limits the amounts of gifts you can get to one (from your partner) where as being single opens up possibilities to way more then that.
Valentine's Day is the number one day people use to let those they're thinking about dating or getting to know better know that they're into them. If there are many people out there who might be interested in you now that you're single, you're sure to find out. Letting people know that you're single might also lead to you having plans for Valentine's Day if someone asks you to spend it with him/her.
5. You don't have to be "single" on Valentines Day
If there's someone out their you have feelings for whether it be a best friend (read: signs that your bestfriend wants to be more then friends or how to make your bestfriend your girlfriend/boyfriend), an ex (read: signs that your ex wants you back) or a class/work mate take advantage of this day of love and get him/her to spend it with you if they're single.
If you're in a relationship but can't be with the one you love: You're in a Long Distance Relationship, He or she has to work in a different country or state, He or she is a marine or soldier, etc, then you still don't have to be alone.
Organise a SKYPE or OVOO date and chat the night away. Fall asleep on video chat, have an hour long conversation or send video messages to each other. If you can't find a means of being together or seeing each other (even if it is just via video) then remember, relationships aren't based on physical connections. Just because you can't be with the person physically doesn't mean you can't be with them spiritually. Your heart is there for a reason. There is very good reason why the best of relationships function on a ' outta sight BUT NEVER outta mind' basis.
Love is what you make of it and if you're too afraid to tell someone how you feel you might let love pass you by.
Have a great Valentines Day!
Remember: HAVE FUN NO MATTER WHAT!
